Race Day Information – Newborough Forest

Directions to Newborough Forest

Follow the A55 to Anglesey cross over the Britannia Bridge, leave the A55 at the exit for Gaerwen (Junction 7), at top of slip road turn left towards Gaerwen, straight on at first roundabout, right at next roundabout onto the A5, then through Gaerwen village (Stermat on right hand side is 1 of the cheapest petrol stations around). Turn left onto the B4419 signposted to Newborough. Follow nice wiggly road until you get to Newborough village and turn left onto the A4080. Turn right (opposite post office) into Church Street. The road has a brown sign for Llys Rhosyr. Follow this road and you will come to the barrier into the forest. Once through the barrier follow the forest road all the way down the main beach car park, please remember to obey the speed limit within the forest.

Newborough Forest is approximately 40 minutes drive from the Plas Gwyn camp site.

When parking please park responsibly so as not to upset the natives (again).

Parking charges

Charges apply every day from 6am to 11:59pm in these car parks:

  • Llanddwyn Beach (the main car park for the beach and forest)
  • Airman’s and Cwningar car parks (on the access road to Llanddwyn Beach car park)

The parking charges are:

  • drop off/pick-up only (up to 30 minutes): free
  • up to 2 hours: £5
  • after 2 hours: £0.70 for every additional 20 minutes
  • all day: £15

Overnight parking is not allowed for any vehicles. If you park between midnight and 6am you will get a parking charge notice.

How to pay for parking

You can pay for parking at the machine in the car park. PLEASE NOTE: Pay when you arrive using contactless payment. You can use the machine in Welsh or English.

Alternatively, you can pay by midnight on the day you visit:

  • on the RingGo app (to use the app in Welsh, you must change the language setting on your phone)
  • on the RingGo website
  • by calling RingGo on 020 3046 0010

RingGo adds an administration fee. You will see this charge before you make your payment. There is also a fee for text notifications, but you can turn off notifications in your RingGo account settings to avoid being charged.

Sunday 25th October 2026
  • 07:30    Registration Opens
  • 08:15    Registration Closes
  • 08:30    10K Race briefing (all 10K participants must attend)
  • 09.15    Start of 10Km race
  • 10.30    5K and 2.5k Race briefing (all 5K and 2.5K participants must attend)
  • 11.00    Start of 5Km race
  • 11.30    Start of 2.5Km junior race
  • 12.00    Raffle followed by prize giving at race HQ

Registration will be at the Canicross Anglesey gazebo. Located through the metal gate at the beach end of the car park (look for race in progress sign).

You will be using the same number on Saturday and Sunday so please don’t loose it (Sunday 5K will use a new number).

Saturday evening there is food and social at Plas Gwyn starting at 6pm.

Canicross Anglesey races are run under Canicross Anglesey Race Rules.

Weather – yes, the met office is forecasting some weather for the weekend, it will change between now and then so it’s anyone’s guess what it will be.

No off-lead dogs around the registration area and start/finish area.
